• THE GEORGETOWN BASKETBALL HISTORY PROJECT

The first national ranking of high school basketball players debuted in 1953. Since then, over 50 Georgetown players have been recognized among a variety of sources.

The first list was made by Chuck Taylor (1901-1969), a basketball promoter and namesake of the Converse shoe, from 1953 through 1957, listing the top five players of the year. In 1958, Parade Magazine issued its annual All-America teams, which featured as many as 40 top players nationwide, with ten players named to each team (e.g., a Second Team selection included players loosely ranked from #11 through #20). Parade maintained its ranking through 2018, but fan attention was drawn  to the debut of "Top 100" lists by a number of regional basketball scouts offering subscription newsletters, among them Bob Gibbons (All-Star Sports), Clark Francis (Hoop Scoop) and Tom Konchalski (High School Basketball Illustrated). These newsletters greatly expanded interest in top prospects, but a player could be highly ranked in one newsletter but be comparatively lower rated by another.

In 1998, the Recruiting Services Consensus Index (RSCI) debuted. RSCI was a consolidated ranking based on the leading recruiting services at the time, which have changed over the years. The RSCI ranking is used in this list for all high school players since 1998.  Inbound transfers are not included in this list.
